贊曰：第三為二千記。有四：一佛見問，二阿難答，三正記別，四二千喜領。此初也。「柔軟」者調順根熟。「寂然」者心澄妙理。「清淨」者非惑所惱。「一心」者更不異思。

The Eulogy states: The third is conferring prophecy upon the two thousand. It has four parts: first, the Buddha sees and asks; second, Ānanda replies; third, the actual bestowal of prophecy; fourth, the two thousand rejoicing and accepting it. This is the first part. "Gentle and pliant" means their faculties are well-tamed and ripe. "Tranquil and still" means their minds are settled in the wondrous truth. "Pure" means they are untroubled by defilements. "Single-minded" means having no other disparate thoughts.
