The Eulogy states: Within this chapter, the main text is divided into two: the first section of prose and verse clarifies the Dharma teacher as a person; the second section of prose and verse clarifies the Dharma teacher as the Dharma. The first section has two parts: first, clarifying the Dharma teacher present before the Buddha; second, clarifying the Dharma teacher not before the Buddha. This is the first part. Because Bhaiṣajyarāja has long upheld this sūtra and burned his body as an offering, he is addressed. The reason he addresses the eighty thousand by calling Bhaiṣajyarāja's name is that he specifically intends to address them and confer prophecy upon them. Among the assembly receiving prophecy, there are distinctions of the eight classes, the four assemblies, and the three vehicles. The Madhyāntavibhāga-śāstra speaks of ten Dharma practices, and each practice has four actions: 1. practicing oneself, 2. urging others, 3. praising, 4. rejoicing. Here, rejoicing with delight is praising; mentioning one exemplifies the rest. Regarding "attaining awakening through minor roots of goodness": just as the sunlight first shining forth already possesses the efficacy of dispelling darkness, and the initial radiance of wisdom's brightness thereupon possesses the momentum to cut off delusion; and just as the clouds and mists first spreading possess the ability to nourish myriad plants, and the initial arising of loving-kindness and compassion brings the aura of sheltering all living beings. If rejoicing with delight in a single line one shall attain awakening, then in faithfully studying this sūtra, what doubt could there be that one will certainly realize it?
