贊曰：此顯位高悲願生此，能說此經是聖者故。不爾，云何名大菩薩？或即凡夫久修學者，簡異二乘及初學者，名大菩薩。菩薩名通，二乘人有及初學故。或成就發心菩提當得勝果，已成因故能說是經。

The Commentary says: This reveals that their stage is high and they are born here through vows of compassion, because one who is able to expound this sūtra is an ārya. Were it not so, how could they be called great bodhisattvas? Or they may be ordinary persons who have long cultivated and trained, who are called great bodhisattvas to distinguish them from the two vehicles and beginners. The name 'bodhisattva' is general, for it applies to people of the two vehicles and beginners as well. Or, having accomplished the bodhicitta of aspiration, they will attain the superior fruit; because the cause is already accomplished, they are able to expound this sūtra.
