The Commentary says: Below explains that the six kinds of Dharma-teachers are worthy of reverence and worthy of honor. The text is divided into two parts: first, explaining the five ways they are worthy of reverence; second, explaining the reasons why. The five ways they are worthy of reverence are: first, the expounder is an emissary of the Buddha; second, the slanderer commits a sin exceeding that against the Buddha; third, reading and reciting is the adornment of the Buddha; fourth, in whatever place they reside, they should be praised and saluted; fifth, they should be offered the four requisites. This is the first. Because their three karmas accord with the Buddha, they become the Buddha's emissary, and so forth. Being an 'emissary' pertains to mental karma; being 'dispatched' pertains to vocal karma; and performing the 'deeds' pertains to bodily karma. Furthermore, transmitting the Buddha's teaching is called being an 'emissary'; employing the Buddha's words is called being 'dispatched'; and acting in accordance with the Buddha's conduct is called performing 'deeds'. Whatever the Bhagavat's three karmas do and perform is entirely for the sake of benefiting sentient beings with this Dharma. Secretly expounding a single phrase should be equal to the Buddha's karma; publicly expounding much truly accords with the Buddha's practice.
