贊曰：下勿妄宣傳。「妄授與人」已上誡之勿傳；「諸佛」已下釋其所以。佛常自守未曾顯說，今方說之。佛在自說，聲聞之中猶有怨嫉增上慢者尚起避席，況佛滅後誹謗不信。

The Eulogy states: Below, it must not be recklessly proclaimed. Up through "recklessly bestow it on people" is an admonition not to transmit it; from "The Buddhas" onward explains the reason. The Buddha always kept it to himself and had never openly preached it, and only now preaches it. Even when the Buddha in person preached it himself, among the śrāvakas there were still those with resentment, jealousy, and overweening pride who stood up and left their seats; how much more so after the Buddha's extinction, when there will be slander and disbelief!
