The Eulogy states: This explains the reason. The dharma of great bodhi has causes and fruits; it has proximate, correct causes and distant, ancillary causes. Teaching, principle, practice, fruit; wisdom-nature and wisdom-marks; and the five kinds of wisdom all belong to this sūtra, because they are obtained through the sūtra and encompassed by this sūtra. "Opening the gate of expedient means" gathers the distant and ancillary, namely the previously taught teaching, principle, practice, and fruit of the two vehicles; "revealing the true mark" gathers the proximate and correct causes, namely the currently taught teaching, principle, practice, and fruit of the Single Vehicle; all are completely exhausted, and thus all belong to this sūtra. Furthermore, "profound and solid": "profound" means subtle and hard to fathom; "solid" means indestructible. It is embraced by the Buddha and secretly guarded by the Buddha, like a king's crest-gem that is not the possession of others. "Abstruse and distant": because it is realized through wondrous wisdom by cultivating causes over great kalpas. Without the Buddha it cannot be achieved; no one else can reach it; it exhausts the original source of truth; and now, to transform bodhisattvas, it is said to be opened and demonstrated.
