The commentary says: The Buddha actually opens it. Because he was making an auspicious sign, he used his right hand. The character yào (鑰) has the fanqie pronunciation yi-zhuo; the Yupian says, "It is a door key." The Shuowen says, "It is the bolt underneath the bar." The Fangyan says, "East of the Pass it is called jiàn (鍵), west of the Pass it is called bì (𨷲)." Yào (鑰) is simply an ancient character; some write it as yuè (籥). The Zilin says, "In vulgar writing it is written as tóng, meaning bamboo slips." He Chengtian's Zuanwen says, "West of the Pass, scrolls of writings are called book yuè (籥)"; this is not that meaning.
