贊曰：下開塔聽說以勸眾人。有二：初二頌因緣，後八頌半頌開塔，不頌前第三見讚。此初也。梵云阿僧企耶，此云無央數。「央」盡也。有作「鞅」，於兩反，《說文》「頸靼也」，非此中義。「靼」音之列反。此本「在在所往」，有云「在在所住」、「在在已住」。復言所住，文義便重，故應從此，言在在所往，所往至處及所在處也。

The commentary says: Below, opening the stūpa to listen to the exposition encourages the assembly. There are two parts: first, two verses on the causes and conditions; next, eight and a half verses versifying the opening of the stūpa, not versifying the previous third part of seeing and praising. This is the first. In Sanskrit, asaṃkhyeya; here it is translated as "countless" (wú yāng shù). Yāng (央) means "exhausted". Some write yàng (鞅) with the fanqie pronunciation yu-liang; the Shuowen says, "It is a neck-strap", which is not the meaning here. The character dá (靼) has the fanqie pronunciation zhi-lie. In this edition it is "wherever he went" (zàizài suǒwǎng); some say "wherever he stayed" (zàizài suǒzhù), or "wherever he had stayed" (zàizài yǐzhù). Saying again "where he stayed" makes the text redundant, so one should follow this [reading], which says "wherever he went," meaning the places he reached and the places where he was.
