9.12

贊曰：此後二也。「時世人」下難位能捐、難財能施中，初施意、後所施。所施中初外財、後內財。「捐」棄也癈捨也。在君為政、在臣為事，今棄君政，非己任也。

The Eulogy says: These are the latter two. Under 'people of that age,' within being able to relinquish a difficult-to-abandon position and being able to give difficult-to-give wealth, first is the intention of giving, and next is what is given. Within what is given, first is external wealth, and next is internal wealth. "Relinquish" (捐) means to abandon or discard. For a ruler it is government; for a minister it is duty. Now, abandoning the ruler's government means it is no longer one's charge.
