The Commentary says: Here there are three categories. The first single phrase reveals tathatā by being free from the two attainments, because empty space lacks the natures of being able to attain and that which is attained. The next single phrase reveals tathatā by adducing inner realization, because verbal designations cannot reach it, and it is realized solely through wisdom. The next three phrases reveal tathatā by not being conditioned. The Nirvāṇa-sūtra says: “Lacking causes and conditions, it is called unarisen; because of being unconditioned, it is called not emerging; lacking the creation of karma, it is called uncreated.” This is called non-arising: its essence is not produced from causes and conditions, nor did its essence previously exist to newly emerge from another, nor is it newly generated and created from karma.
