贊曰：六頌分三，初二離惡、次三脩善、後一勸脩。此初也。初頌離七惡以質直，後頌離三過以傳授。「偽詐」不實也。「蔑」音莫結反，《說文》「相輕侮也」。《切韻》無也。若輕作「蔑」。

The commentary states: The six verses are divided into three: the first two abandon evil; the next three cultivate good; the final one exhorts cultivation. This is the first. The first verse is on leaving seven evils by being straightforward and upright; the subsequent verse is on leaving three faults when transmitting teachings. "Wěizhà" (偽詐) means dishonest. "Miè" (蔑) is pronounced mo-jie (莫結); the Shuowen says, "mutually despising and slighting". The Qieyun says it means 'none'. When meaning slighting, it is written as miè (蔑).
