贊曰：末賜大乘喻也。明珠即是法華大乘，是佛心首所持，故言髻中。見功猶小，不斷智障品之四魔，法華會前尚住權智未為說此。「王眷屬」者謂大菩薩。「必驚怪」者，見不順機而說妙法，故生疑怪。

The Eulogy states: The simile of finally granting the Mahāyāna. The bright jewel is the Mahāyāna of the Lotus, which is held at the crown of the Buddha's mind, and is therefore said to be "in his topknot." Seeing that their merit is still small, not having severed the four maras of the class of cognitive obstacles, before the Lotus assembly they still abided in provisional wisdom, and he did not yet speak this for them. "The king's retinue" refers to the great bodhisattvas. "Surely be astonished and bewildered" means that seeing that he expounds the wondrous Dharma when it does not accord with the capacity, they therefore give rise to doubt and bewilderment.
