The Commentary says: This chapter has three parts: first, Śākyamuni's three admonitions; next, Maitreya's four requests; later, the Tathāgata's formal pronouncement. This is the first. The wondrous essence of the three bodies resides at the culmination of the fruit; superior wisdom still cannot fathom it, so by what cause could inferior fools comprehend it? Fearing that their minds might harbor doubts and their mouths utter slander, incurring harm on account of the Dharma, he therefore admonished them earnestly before putting forward the formal teaching. He also feared that their ears would not concentrate on the Dharma instruction, and their minds would not focus on the profound principle. Moreover, the nature of sentient beings is dull and unable to comprehend upon hearing; in order to cause the Dharma to enter their minds, he repeatedly addressed them to explain the three bodies, which is why there are three admonitions.
