Eulogy: Below, the second part secretly explains that because the dharma-body was realized through this, realization of the path actually occurred long ago, yet expedient means are manifested in response to beings. There are three sections: first, to state the premise that the different ways of speaking and displaying [the body] in response to beings are none of them false proclamations; next, to explain that because of realizing the dharma-body one is able to manifest these, though in accordance with actual true reality, fundamentally no such things exist; last, beginning from 'Because sentient beings', to explain the reasons for manifesting expedients in response to beings. This is the first section. It has three parts: first, stating the premise; second, revealing it; third, concluding that it is not false. 'Speaking' means verbal explanation. 'Displaying' means manifest display. 'Body' is the internal entity. 'Actions' means undertakings. Speaking of one's own body means saying, 'My body was once King Sattva, King Śibi, and so forth.' Speaking of another's body means such cases as saying that Maitreya in the past was the ṛṣi Sarvajñaprabha, or that Amitābha Buddha was the monk Dharmākara, and so forth. Displaying one's own body means appearing as Śākyamuni's body personally entering the world, or floating in the air in response to Śrīmālā's distant invocation, and so forth. Displaying another's body means manifesting as Vipaśyin Buddha appearing in the world, or opening the stūpa to display Prabhūtaratna Buddha, and so forth. Displaying one's own actions means manifesting Śākyamuni's undertakings such as subjugating Māra, realizing the path, preaching the Dharma, and displaying supernatural powers. Displaying another's actions means displaying the undertakings of Mahābhijñājñānābhibhū such as displaying supernatural powers, shaking the earth, emitting light, and realizing the path. Being able to manifest these things in order to deliver sentient beings is all actual and not false.
