Now, it is heard that the Utmost Awakened One, adapting the ultimate to the provisional, appeared in the world in response to the capacities of sentient beings; the wondrous axis uniquely manifested marvelous means, raising teachings to guide the various classes of beings. He stirred Mount Rong, rising supremely over the chiliocosm; he surged from the ocean's depths, providing a crossing for the eighty thousand. Gathering clouds of compassion to extend broad shelter, he sent down showers of Dharma rain to bring purification far and wide; he nourished the differing blooms of the two trees and moistened the distinct luxuriance of the three herbs. However, because the young merchants grew weary of the long and perilous journey, he first guided and enticed them with the conjured city; because the children amused themselves with the ram-drawn carts, he ultimately illuminated their advance to the white-bullock carriages. Thereupon, the Holy Sovereign who crushed the ten armies unloosed the bright jewel from his topknot; the King of Physicians who established the eight truths bestowed the marvelous medicine from his palm. Brilliant beyond all metaphors, surpassing all hundred schools, [this teaching] encompasses the seven grounds while singularly glorifying the ninefold divisions; it crowns the five vehicles while uniquely flourishing throughout a thousand ages. How grand it is! Proclaiming the single reality, it embraces the great void; raising the two provisionals, it encompasses the myriad phenomena. How could the vast ocean illustrate its profound tenets, or Mount Meru compare to its lofty path!
