The Commentary says: This verse explains how to recognize those with overweening pride. Those evil persons in future ages who do not believe this Dharma will mostly have overweening pride; not only those with overweening pride, but all other evil persons will also be unable to believe it. While the Buddha was present, the characteristics of those with pride were already explained above; after his extinction, it will be hard to recognize them, which is why this is singled out.
