The Eulogy says: This passage has five [aspects]: Sixth, adornment: vaiḍūrya forms the ground, because minds are free from flaws. Seventh, road layout: there are eight intersecting roads, because of cultivating the eight precepts and the eightfold noble path; there being four east-west and four north-south makes them called 'eight intersecting roads'; or there are eight east-west and eight north-south, named after one direction; or the roads of the eight directions are called 'eight intersecting roads,' as nine tracks in a square road is called a thoroughfare (kui). Eighth, road adornment: golden cords border the roads, brought about by practicing the four dhāraṇīs. Ninth, groves and copses: rows of trees of the seven treasures, because of cultivating the seven noble treasures and upholding the seven branches of moral discipline. Tenth, fruits: there will constantly be flowers and fruits, because of being nurtured by constantly cultivating the causes of the seven limbs of awakening and the eight liberations.
