The Commentary says: This explains that they too will become buddhas. Regarding "I will become a buddha in other lands, having yet other different names," the Sūtra on the Bodhisattva Dwelling in the Womb says: "Passing away from here, in each of the ten directions in thirty-two nayuta buddha lands he will again become a buddha and teach sentient beings." In the Parable of the Physician below, this meaning is fully revealed. Although these people conceive the notion of extinction and seek to enter nirvāṇa without residue, having affinity with me, I use spiritual powers to guide and draw them, so that encountering me they hear this sūtra. Or, whether they are ordinary persons or those in training, who seek nirvāṇa with or without residue, and taking this nirvāṇa to be real extinction, seek to enter and realize these two kinds of nirvāṇa, cultivating the practice of the two vehicles—driven by their lineage and guided by compassion, they are born there, encounter me, and seek the Buddha's wisdom; or I, becoming a buddha in other lands from here, while these people form the notion of extinction toward me, thinking that I have entered nirvāṇa without residue, I guide them there to make them seek the Buddha's wisdom. This speaks of those who have the condition of encountering me. Or, although they do not have this cause and condition with me, they also receive guidance and transformation from other buddhas and bodhisattvas, and hearing this scripture will attain buddhahood. There are also those who secretly transform and bring these people to maturation, preaching the Dharma and guiding them toward the Mahāyāna. Here he speaks of manifest transformation of those who have affinity with me; hence it says that there they seek the Buddha's wisdom. Or, although they go there having affinity with other buddhas, based on the intention of equality, it is also said to be me.
