Commentary: The six and a half verses below explain the matters that are difficult to repay. Within this there are three parts: first, two and a half verses generally explain that the Buddha is able to perform inferior deeds and is able to expound in accordance with what is fitting for ordinary beings who grasp at signs; next, two verses on being able to know desires, delights, and resolute faith, and expounding the Dharma for them; finally, two verses on being able to know whether faculties are mature or immature and expounding the three vehicles for them. This is the first. Concealing the real virtues of the reward body, revealing the provisional form of the transformation appearance, hiding the profound principle of the wondrous tenets, setting forth the coarse doctrines of the broad teachings, not dwelling in the pure land, and abiding in this defiled quarter to follow along with ordinary beings—how could this not be difficult to repay?
