何經云我知此眾生未曾修善本，此經本對退菩提人，前云今此會中如我等比百千萬億世世已曾從佛受化。第二卷云：我曾於二萬億佛所為無上道故常教化汝等故。

Which sūtra says: 'I know that these sentient beings have never cultivated good roots'? This sūtra fundamentally addresses persons who retrogressed from bodhi; earlier it says: 'Now in this assembly, those such as us, hundreds of thousands of myriads of koṭis, have already received conversion from the Buddha life after life.' The second fascicle says: 'I formerly, at the places of two myriads of koṭis of buddhas, constantly taught and transformed you for the sake of the unexcelled path.'
