既云千二百羅漢悉亦當作佛，為自知當作佛，為不知耶？若自知者，千二百人應同鶖子一時與記，何故說化城已方生解心始與授記？

Since it says that the one thousand two hundred arhats shall likewise all become buddhas, did they know themselves that they would become buddhas, or did they not know? If they knew themselves, the one thousand two hundred people should have been bestowed prophecies simultaneously like Śāriputra. Why was it only after the Parable of the Conjured City was spoken that an understanding mind arose and prophecies began to be bestowed?
