有二解。一云知得，但未趣向，以樂少故，聞說化城方解捨小，始與授記。二云未知，但是佛說彼當作佛，聞第三周方始領悟。

There are two explanations. One says they knew they would attain it, but had not yet applied themselves because their inclination was slight; only upon hearing the Parable of the Conjured City did they understand and abandon the Hīnayāna, and prophecies began to be bestowed. The second says they did not yet know; it was merely that the Buddha stated they would become buddhas, and only upon hearing the third cycle did they begin to comprehend.
