1.29

〈涌出品〉云：是諸眾生始見我身，即寂滅道場見盧舍那；聞我所說，謂華嚴教，除先修習學小乘者，則知前未為如是人等，我亦令得聞是經、入佛慧，故知今為迴小之人。

The "Emerging from the Earth" chapter says: "When these sentient beings first saw my body, that is, when they saw Rocana at the place of tranquil extinction, and heard what I preached—meaning the *Avataṃsaka* teaching—except for those who had previously practiced and studied the Hīnayāna, one knows that previously it was not for such people. I also cause them to hear this sūtra and enter the buddha-wisdom." Therefore, we know that it is now for people who turn from the small.
