請有二時，酬亦兩種。初請一說根本法輪故，今受請與昔為異，如〈方便品〉及《智度論》初卷說之。

There are two times of requests, and their responses are also of two kinds. The first request was solely to preach the root wheel of the Dharma. Hence, the present acceptance of the request differs from that of the past, as explained in the "Expedient Means" chapter and the first fascicle of the *Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa*.
