1.94

據佛未加未重為說故作說。又解，《首楞嚴經》據佛所悟未說之法，云不能總持，如言未說如林中葉等。又若此處所說之法阿難能持，於餘十方諸淨土說，阿難不持。

This statement is made on the basis of what the Buddha had not yet empowered or repeated for him. Another explanation is that the Śūraṅgama-sūtra speaks on the basis of the teachings realized by the Buddha that had not yet been spoken, stating that he could not retain them all, just like saying that the unspoken [teachings] are like the leaves in the forest, and so forth. Furthermore, while Ānanda was able to retain the teachings expounded in this place, he did not retain those expounded in the other pure lands of the ten directions.
