1.97

在因位故，據顯相身在此界故，於餘處說云不能持，在此界中若實無能，云何《阿含》云唯除尊者餘不能了？欝多羅者亦聲聞故。又違《處胎》云悉能持，不爾相違，故作此通，諸文無過。

Because he was in the causal stage, and based on the fact that his manifested body was in this realm, it is said that he could not retain what was spoken in other places. If he truly lacked the ability in this realm, why does the Āgama state, "With the sole exception of the Venerable One, others cannot fully understand"? Uttara was also a śrāvaka. Moreover, [denying this] would contradict the Garbhastha[-sūtra], which states that he could retain everything. Otherwise they would contradict each other; thus this reconciliation is made, so that all texts are without fault.
