Another question: The person capable of preaching is perfect, and in terms of the teaching it is also perfect; but practitioners have differing capacities—which teaching do these people receive? If they receive the biased teaching, they are the same as the people of Mṛgadāva; if they receive the perfect teaching, their capacities should also be identical. Answer: In the past, at Mṛgadāva, the Buddha had not yet manifested the origin and revealed the traces, nor converged the three and returned to the one; person and dharma were not yet perfect, so the upāya received could not be called perfect. In the present sūtra, the expedient and the real have already been opened and revealed: although there are diverse bodies, origin and traces are inconceivably one; although diverse dharmas are preached, it is for opening the perfect path, so there is no flaw in this meaning.
