三、約觀解者，果報水至二禪，惡業水通三界，煩惱水通大小乘，如地獄鑊湯沸屎、鹹海灰河，流漂沒溺；餓鬼道中亦有；填河塞海，畜生淹沒，衝波致患；阿脩羅亦有水難，人中可知。水災及二禪，汎瀁無岸，是時若不稱名，尚不致淺處，何況永免耶？

Third, regarding contemplative interpretation: the water of retributive result reaches up to the second dhyāna, the water of evil karma pervades the three realms, and the water of affliction pervades both the Great and Small Vehicles. For instance, in the hells there are boiling cauldrons, boiling excrement, salty oceans, and the river of ash, drifting and drowning beings; it also exists in the realm of hungry ghosts; filling rivers and damming seas, animals are submerged, with surging waves causing disaster; asuras also have the peril of water, and among humans it is well known. The disaster of water reaches the second dhyāna, overflowing without shore; at that time, if one does not recite the name, one will not even reach a shallow place, how much less be permanently delivered?
