2.47

一、明聖人，先明佛者，為是應佛、為是化佛？但聖人逗物具有二義，若一時欻有，為化應同，始終名應，若尋此文，明於應義也。

First, in explaining the sages, the Buddha is explained first: is this a response Buddha (nirmāṇakāya), or a transformation Buddha? Sages responding to beings have both meanings: if appearing abruptly for a time, it is a transformation; if matching [the being] from beginning to end, it is called a response. If one examines this text, it clarifies the meaning of a response.
