Capacity also has four parts: first, one person offering comfort; second, encouraging the recitation of the name; third, praising virtue; fourth, the multitude reciting together. The reason for offering comfort is to stop their fear; the reason for encouraging the recitation of the name is to devise the best plan; the reason for praising virtue is to encourage them to steady their courage. If one does not offer comfort, they will be terrified and panic-stricken; although comforting stops fear, if no plan is devised, what benefit is empty comfort? Therefore, one encourages the recitation of the name. Although encouraging the recitation of the name, if one does not praise virtue when devising the plan, their minds will not be steady, nor their courage bold, so one praises virtue. Therefore, know that this bodhisattva is definitely able to bestow fearlessness; with resolute resolve they rely upon him. These three meanings being fulfilled, they recite aloud together, and through capacity and response they immediately attain liberation. 'Namo' means taking refuge with one's life, and is also called 'rescue me'; this concludes the vocal capacity.
