Answer: Since it is called the inexhaustible Dharma-gate and also said to be able to know all dharmas, it is the Middle Way samādhi that eliminates fundamental ignorance. Therefore, the Notes on the Commentary explains that if Sudhana obtained the true-mark samādhi from a spiritual friend, it eliminated subtle ignorance within the obstruction; for the most part, it is explained according to the un-interfused doctrinal path eliminating ignorance (all the above from the Notes on the Commentary). Second, from "Citing that..." downward concludes and indicates. If Avalokiteśvara rescues from the fire of afflictions in the Separate Teaching, it is just like the marks cultivated by the brāhmaṇa Jayoṣmīyat. The ten stages of benefit comprehensively conclude the preceding three stages of loving-kindness and compassion. Second, from "Next explaining..." downward explains the perfect and sudden, divided into two: first, explaining the fundamental cultivation of perfect contemplation and loving-kindness and compassion. The initial mind contemplates the inconceivable realm of fire, where a single gate of fire contains the three thousand dharmas. Although they mutually pervade each other, their marks are distinctly clear; upon this realm one generates bodhicitta, vowing to eradicate sentient beings' disasters of the fires of the three obstructions, and vowing to bestow upon sentient beings the three kinds of joy of fire. Second, from "If in the dharmadhātu..." downward explains the stimulus and response of the dharmadhātu upon entering the stages, divided into two: first, explaining, divided into three: first, responding without deliberation. Cultivating perfectly and realizing perfectly, with perfect vows. Perfuming perfect power and function, without moving from the one mind, he rescues from the ten fire disasters. Second, from "Although without..." downward is distinguishing without distinguishing. The universal compassion of the perfect thoroughly eradicates and is genuinely not sequential; responding with shallowness or depth is merely based on the capacity and stimulus. The demarcations of the three obstructions correspond to the powers of the twenty-five kingly samādhis, naturally becoming more or fewer: escaping the fire of retributive fruition corresponds to the powers of fifteen kingly samādhis; cultivating uncontaminated good to escape the fire of bad karma corresponds to the powers of twenty-four kingly samādhis. Which single one is connected to? If eliminating bad karma, Neither-Thought is not used; if accomplishing good causes, Hell is not used; because the cause of Hell has no accomplishment, and the cause of Neither-Thought has no eradication. Therefore, when discussing the extremes of top and bottom in causal practice and bad karma mutually, one samādhi is not used. From the two vehicles upward to the perfect entering the Middle, at every stage the powers of the twenty-five realms of existence kingly samādhis are used. Third, from "Although responding..." downward is entering without entering. Although entering the fire of the three obstructions of various existences, because its essence is comprehended as identical to emptiness, provisionality, and the Middle, no marks can be found; how could there be that which can burn and that which is burned? Second, from "Bodhisattva..." downward concludes. Second, from "The usual path..." downward shows one's own and others' gains and losses. The illusion-like samādhi breaks through the existence of Jambudvīpa, fully treating the ten stages. Other masters only know the single benefit of retributive fruition, hence it is called a minor fraction.
