The sūtra states: "Good man, those various dhyāna-contemplations are all concentrations of past conceptualization; this thusness is no longer those. Why is this? Through thusness one contemplates real thusness, and does not see the characteristics of contemplating thusness; all characteristics are already extinguished, and extinction is precisely the meaning of thusness. Is not a dhyāna-concentration conceptualized like that movement rather than dhyāna? Why is this? The nature of dhyāna is free from all movement, neither defiling nor defiled, neither dharma nor shadow; it is free from all discriminations, because the original reality is the real. Good man, contemplation and concentration such as this is truly called dhyāna."
