Commentary: This is the third [part], the understanding and reception. Within this there are two: first, understanding the contemplative practice, and afterwards understanding the objective realm. 'Such practices of wisdom' refers to the functioning of such three kinds [of practices] that are capable of accomplishing the four cognitions. 'Benefit oneself and others' means that the former two benefit oneself, and the third benefits others. 'Transcend the plane of the three realms' means that the former two, concentration and wisdom, differ from ordinary beings. 'Do not abide in nirvāṇa' means that the third, great compassion, differs from the two vehicles. Being free from those two extremes, one enters into the bodhisattva path. From 'Such' onward, he understands that objective realm. That is, the initial realm of concentration is the subjective and objective aspects of the consciousnesses, and the subsequent realm of wisdom is the dharmas of the great items of meaning; such characteristics of dharmas are all dharmas of arising and ceasing. Why is this? Because delusive discrimination stirs the ocean of the mind. In the gate of original tranquility, if one is free from discrimination, there is no cause for them; how could there be arising and ceasing? Therefore it is said, 'dharmas should not cease.'"
