The treatise states: All sentient beings, from beginningless time, have entered the long night of fundamental ignorance, creating the great dream of false discrimination. When a bodhisattva cultivates contemplation and obtains non-arising, he thoroughly realizes that sentient beings are originally quiescent and are simply innate awakening, resting on the couch of uniform thusness; with this original benefit, he benefits sentient beings. This chapter reveals this principle; hence it is named the "Chapter on the Benefit of Innate Awakening."
