The sūtra says: The Buddha said: "As for the four conditions: first is called the condition of apprehending the power that produces analytical cessation, which gathers the precepts of restraint; second is called the condition of accumulating and giving rise through the power of the pure roots of original benefit, which gathers the precepts of cultivating wholesome dharmas; third is called the condition of the power of original wisdom and great compassion, which gathers the precepts of benefiting sentient beings; fourth is called the condition of the power of the all-pervading cognition of the single awakening, which accords with thusness. Abiding in these is called the four conditions. Good son! Such four great powers of conditions do not abide in phenomenal characteristics, yet they are not without efficacy. If separated from the one place, they cannot be sought. Good son! Such a single matter universally gathers the six practices; it is the ocean of prajñā of the buddhas and bodhisattvas."
