2.36

一辨名。言明法者，有二：一約教，阿含法照理現故名明，法即義也；二約行。由行增勝後位相現故，即用前位法義解行等為明，用後位教義等為法也。

First, distinguishing the name: As for 'illuminating the Dharma', there are two aspects: first, in terms of teaching, the āgama-dharma illuminates principle and makes it manifest, hence it is called 'illuminating', and 'Dharma' is the meaning; second, in terms of practice: because practice increases and becomes superior, and the subsequent stages become manifest, one uses the Dharma, meaning, understanding, and practice of the preceding stage as 'illuminating', and uses the teaching, meaning, and so forth of the subsequent stage as 'Dharma'.
