二來意者，有二：初會來意，前是《阿含》，次入證故來也；二品來意者，前方便迴行向於菩提，今行相增明轉入十地，義次第故也。

2. The reason for its occurrence has two aspects: First, the reason for the assembly: the preceding [assemblies] were the āgama teachings, whereas next comes entering into realization, hence its occurrence. Second, the reason for the chapter: previously, one expediently dedicated practices toward bodhi; now, the characteristics of practice increase in clarity and one progressively enters the ten bhūmis, hence the sequential progression of meaning.
