The second night deity is named Gambhīrasattvasambhavavimuktiprabhā, which is the position of a bodhisattva of the second bhūmi; she enters the Dharma-gate of the bodhisattva's diligent cultivation of the joy of quietist samādhi. First, the admonition to advance has three, which can be known; second, from "At that time Sudhana" onward, is entering in accordance [with instruction]; third, from "replied, saying" onward, is the actual entry. In the second part, entering in accordance [with instruction], there are seven: first, ten verses praising the virtues of the previous good spiritual friend—among the ten verses, the first six praise the virtues of the reward body, the next one praises the manifestation of original causal practices within the body, and the next three praise the inexhaustibility of functional utility; second, taking leave and going; third, recollecting, in which there are two parts that can be known; fourth, gradually arriving; fifth, reaching; sixth, paying homage; seventh, stating his own resolving [of the mind on bodhi] and inquiring. In the third part, the actual entry, the general text has three: first, praising the resolving [of the mind on bodhi]; second, from "The bodhisattva accomplishes ten dharmas" onward, explaining the Dharma-gate of her own division; third, from "The great" onward, deferring [to the superior division]. In the second part, her own division, there are three: first, discerning the essence and characteristics of the Dharma, which has two: first, discerning the essence and characteristics, this passage having four parts that can be known—within these thirty gates, the first four are benefiting oneself, and the next six are benefiting others; second, from "I have already" onward, concluding with the name. Second, from "fully sees" onward, explaining the major application, this passage having four: first, generally discerning the characteristics of application; second, from "also not attached" onward, establishing the essence of practice in response to application, having four, namely asserting, reproaching, answering, and concluding the answer, which can be known; third, from "discriminating and understanding" onward, explaining the dual functioning of the two applications; fourth, from "I constantly thus..." onward, broadly discerning the characteristics of application, the remaining characteristics being knowable; third, from "I only" onward, concluding, which can be known. In deferring [to the superior division], first is explaining separately, and afterwards is concluding generally.
