Fourth, explaining the text: This text has two parts: first the questions, and then the answers. The reason why the devaputra Right Mindfulness asks is to signify samādhi and reveal the principle. Furthermore, right mindfulness is unconfused, and pure retribution is capable of receiving it. The questioning text has four parts: first, a general question; second, taking up the matters; third, one's own stage, accomplishing the practice of leaving home; fourth, from 'speedily accomplish' onward, superior progression, clarifying the other stage, and also the realm of the Buddha. Again, it is asked: Why did the preceding Chapter on Pure Practice clarify the lay and the monastic together, whereas this one does not? Above, because the faculties of faith were weak, the two were clarified together where the signs of conditioned cultivation are easily exchanged. From this point forward, the assembly on the Dharma clarifies the characteristics of leaving home because it intends to clarify that the intrinsic essence's dependent origination is by nature detached, detached without being annihilationist; this is as spoken in the Vimalakīrti-sūtra.
