3. Regarding the central theme, there are two: first, that of the assembly; second, that of the chapter. For the assembly, there are four: (1) Clarifying that which is eliminated, namely the primary afflictions, karmic retributions, and the active seeds of the nature of the three obstacles. (2) That which eliminates, namely true non-conceptual wisdom and Samantabhadra's wisdom of the arising of the nature. (3) Virtues accomplished, of which there are two, namely persons and dharmas. Persons are of two kinds, namely primary transformers and assisting transformers, each possessing essence, characteristics, and function, and both pervading the arising of the nature and so forth. Dharmas refer to principle, teaching, practice, and fruition, which also pervade the arising of the nature, cultivation-born aspects, and so forth. Comprehending them through analogical reflection, one can understand. (4) Clarifying the stages accomplished, namely the stages of the ten bhūmis, Samantabhadra's arising of the nature, the uncontaminated Dharma gates, and so forth. If one discusses the four meanings of the central theme of the chapter, conforming to the above, it differs only in taking what is born of cultivation. Furthermore, that this chapter takes non-explanation as explanation means it realizes the virtuous stages of Samantabhadra; taking explanation as explanation is the theme of the Triyāna.
