Sixth, the sequence: first, having oneself realized faith, one accomplishes the causes and effects of Buddhahood; second, feeling pity for sentient beings who abide in suffering and transmigration, one therefore gives rise to great compassion; third, vowing that one should rescue them so that they fully attain the joy of the fruit of Buddhahood, one therefore gives rise to great benevolence; fourth, wishing to rescue others, being oneself without clinging or attachment, one gives away everything; fifth, for the sake of benefiting others, one seeks for them those mundane and supramundane dharmas without weariness; sixth, due to seeking without weariness, one realizes and understands the scriptures and treatises; seventh, because one knows the scriptures and treatises well, one is adept at weighing what should and should not be done among the superior, middling, and inferior classes of sentient beings, and therefore gives rise to the skillful understanding of mundane dharmas; eighth, relying on correct practices according to the appropriate time, measure, and so forth, one therefore gives rise to shame and conscience; ninth, because one is diligent without regression in what was previously done, one gives rise to the power of endurance; tenth, through the power of endurance, one is able to make offerings to the Buddhas and practice as taught.
