First, explaining the name: According to the ninth [fascicle] of the Cheng weishi lun, it possesses pure śīla and is far removed from the defilement of subtle transgressions of precepts. The Daśabhūmika-vibhāṣā states: "Because of practicing the path of the ten good actions and being free from all defilements." The Mahāyānasaṃgraha says: "Because of being extremely far removed from the defilement of transgressing precepts." Vasubandhu explains: "Natural morality is accomplished, not like the first bhūmi where one deliberates to guard the precepts." Asanga's commentator Apratiṣṭhita (Wuxing) also agrees. The Yogācāra and Sandhinirmocana both agree with this explanation. The explanation of the name in the Daśabhūmika-śāstra is as given earlier in the fundamental section.
