The sixth: in the virtuous essence of the mark of the gums, first is supreme virtue adorning the exterior. 'Itanila' translates here as 'indranīla jewel'. Second is internal filling with the dharmadhātu. Third is the great assembly completely filling it: since all dharmadhātu grounds are within the Buddha's gums and palate, therefore the clouds of bodhisattvas also completely fill the inside of his gums. From 'giving birth to' down clarifies its function and benefit; therein, the ten directions illuminated are still within the gums, because the dharmadhātus are not merely manifested, therefore this gum alone completely encompasses the dharmadhātu. Head, back, hands, and feet are also within it; the worlds of the ten directions and sentient beings, bodhisattvas, and Buddhas are all exclusively within this, while the other gates are like empty space having nothing. Yet the mark of the gums is not large and the dharmadhātu is not small; [the latter] is entirely within it, while the external appearance is distinct. The boundless realm of space does not extend outside the gums; this is called the Tathāgata's supreme mark, which is not an object of consciousness and calculation. This one being so, the rest are all parallel to it.
