Fourth, mutual gathering and subsumption: there are four levels. First, gathering stages by stages: because within the six stages, each one gathers all stages, therefore a single stage is endowed with two thousand, making twelve thousand. The earlier statement, "Dwelling on one bhūmi, it universally gathers the virtues of all bhūmis," refers to this. Second, gathering approaches by approaches: because within the two hundred approaches, each one gathers all approaches, this forms two hundred times two hundred, making forty thousand practices. Third, gathering practices by practices: because within the two thousand practices, each one encompasses all practices, this forms two thousand times two thousand. Exceeding billions and trillions, they are termed equal [to the dharmadhātu]. Fourth, gathering the broad through the brief: regarding the two thousand practices and so forth taught like this, the verse below concludes, "Like an exposition of a single speck of dust of the great earth." Because this brief exposition of a single speck of dust is not separate from the broad earth of the ten directions, in gathering the broad there is likewise nothing not exhausted. This is equal to the limitless dharmadhātu and transcends boundless space, as stated below: "Space might be measured, but a bodhisattva's virtues are inexhaustible." This refers to this.
