18.65

第五「豈能盡知」下仰推勝進。於中二：先總舉；二「何以故」下十句別辨，初五自分行、後五入佛果行。皆云海者，以此比丘但知自一海，更有多海非己能知，故皆推也。第二治地住竟。

Fifth, from "How could I be able to fully know..." onward, he reverently defers to superior advancement. Therein are two: first, a general statement; second, from "Why is this?" onward, ten phrases specifically distinguish it: the first five are practices of his own stage; the latter five are practices entering the Buddha fruition. All refer to "oceans" because this bhikṣu only knows his own single ocean, while there are further many oceans that are not within his capacity to know, and thus he defers them all. The second, the Abiding of Cultivating the Ground, is completed.
