Third, in paying respects and making requests after seeing him, there are four: first, arriving there and seeking, he sees his environmental reward. Second, from "seeing him" onward explains seeing the personal reward: through wisdom he abides in the signless, while his body roams in empty space. Below, the offerings of devas and others have ten phrases, explaining the practice of his retinue. Third, from "At that time Sudhana" onward, he approaches in person and pays respect. Fourth, from "he addressed [him] saying" onward, he presents the intent of his request. The initial ten phrases ask about generating practice regarding the Dharma; the subsequent ten phrases, from "I have heard that the Great Sage..." onward, ask about practice giving rise to superior functions. In the former, all ten kinds proceed from the subtle to the prominent, as can be known by referring to their explanations. In the latter ten: the initial two phrases explain practices that do not depart from the Triratna; the next two phrases, from "not abandoning the great vow" onward, explain practices of twofold benefit; the next two phrases, from "not abandoning Buddha lands" onward, explain practices of gathering the Buddha's environmental and personal [rewards]; the next two phrases, from "not departing from the conditioned" onward, explain the non-abiding practice of compassion and wisdom; the final two phrases, from "constantly hearing" onward, explain the practice of gathering the Dharma.
