19.42

第二依教趣求中六：一設敬辭退。二念前法門修習增長。三「作是思惟」下因思得益。四「復作是念」下念知識功能。五「善財如是悲心」下因念感讚。隨菩薩天者，是己業行之神。如來使天者，是佛為攝生神。但修菩薩行位著已去，皆有二天常隨其人，既見善財深悲入定，於定現身加讚安慰。六出定漸至等可知。

Second, in proceeding to seek according to instructions, there are six points: (1) Paying respects and taking leave. (2) Mindfully recollecting the previous dharma-gate to cultivate and increase it. (3) From 'Reflecting thus...' downward, obtaining benefit through reflection. (4) From 'He further reflected...' downward, mindfully recollecting the function and power of the spiritual friend. (5) From 'Sudhana having such a compassionate mind...' downward, moving [the devas] to praise him through his recollection. The devas that follow the bodhisattva are the deities of his own karmic practices. The devas that are the Tathāgata's emissaries are the deities sent by the Buddha to gather beings. Whenever one cultivates the bodhisattva practices and has established one's stage from that point on, both devas constantly follow that person; seeing Sudhana entering samādhi with deep compassion, they manifested their bodies in samādhi to add praise and comfort. (6) Emerging from samādhi, gradually arriving, etc., which can be understood.
