In the spiritual friend of the ninth stage, the Bhūmi of Good Intelligence (Sādhumatī-bhūmi), she cites the Dharma to encourage practice: first, pointing out the place: this garden is more than twenty li east of the city of Kapilavastu, which is the place where Māyā gave birth to the crown prince. As for "Luminī" (Lumbinī), there is no standard transliteration; translated according to its meaning, it is said to mean "fully endowed with superb and wonderful things such as flowers and fruits." Second, indicating the person: as for the name Forest Devatā of Perfect Wondrous Virtue, it means that she possesses good and wondrous virtue within and made a vow to protect this forest, hence she was named after it. The Indian manuscript states: "There was a Lumbinī goddess named Wondrous Perfect Radiance of Superior Delight." Third, regarding the instruction to question: because it is the place where the Buddha was born, he was instructed to ask about being born into the family of the buddhas, and so forth.
