Third, from "At that time there was a guardian…" onwards, explaining the rākṣasa king instructing him to arouse practice. Within this, there are three points: First, teaching ten dharmas to be able to draw near to the spiritual friend, having first a general [statement], next specific [analyses], and finally a conclusion. In the specific [analyses]: (1) straight mind; (2) compassionate mind; (3) wise mind; (4) non-regressing mind; (5) firm, faithful mind; (6) deep mind, because of contemplating nature; (7) great mind, because of pervasively covering; (8) vast mind, because of comprehending the dharmadhātu; (9) skillful mind, because of prescribing medicine in response to illness; (10) constant mind, because practice is uninterrupted. Second, from "Furthermore…" onwards, teaching ten samādhis. Seeing the spiritual friend is because by entering samādhi, one knows the equal dharmakāya of the Buddhas and bodhisattvas; also, relying on samādhi, one is able to see all Buddhas and bodhisattvas; and also because Māyā is the realm of samādhi. There is a general [statement], next specific [analyses], and finally a conclusion, all of which can be known. Third, from "At that time Sudhana answered…" onwards, explaining the instruction to seek the spiritual friend: first, Sudhana apprehends what preceded and asks about what follows; second, from "He answered, saying…" onwards, properly instructing on the place to seek, because where Māyā resides pervades the ten directions, so he instructs him to pay homage to the ten directions and seek her.
