Ninth, "Unsurpassed Wisdom": because wisdom is free from the marks of being "surpassed." The ten verses are divided into three: first, one [verse] explains his own name; next, eight display the virtues of the Buddha. Therein, the first six distinguish the virtues of the Buddha's internal realization: first, the object is free from coarse and subtle cultivation—the virtue produced [by cultivation] is coarse, so due to emptiness he does not fashion it; the true principle is subtle, being originally present, so he does not seek it; second, it is free from number and non-number—these two treat the object; third, it is free from illuminating and non-illuminating—this treats wisdom; fourth, one verse and a half are free from reliance and non-reliance; fifth, one verse and a half are free from the marks of oneness and dualness—the above treat the interpenetration of both object and wisdom. The subsequent two display the virtues of the Buddha's external conversion [of beings]: first, he teaches them to abide in phenomena without any abiding; second, they come to see the true body without any seeing. The last one attributes the merit.
